Rosuvastatin Alcohol
Rosuvastatin belongs to a family of drugs known as HMG CoA reductbase inhibitors or statins which reduce levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides while increasing the level of good cholesterol (HDL). It reduces the risk of stroke, heart attack and other coronary complications in those with diabetes, coronary heart disease or other risk factors.
It is used for adults and chidren at least 10 years old.
Moderate drinking is allowed (two drinks or less per day) while using Crestor . It is suggested you discuss your alcohol consumption with your physician.
At this time the medical community defines moderate consumption of alcohol as no more than two drinks per day and no more than 14 drinks per week. Anything more than that is considered an unhealthy dependency on alcohol that may have adverse social, family and health consequences.
If a person drinks only once or twice a week but drinks on the same days each week and more than two drinks this is considered as an alcohol dependency.
If a person binge drinks at any time during the week this is also considered as alcoholism.
Some consider alcoholism as a disease while others consider it an addiction which is the result of personal choice and character fault. This school of thought blames the alcoholism on life style choices.
Personally I consider alcoholism a genetic tendency as I have seen families of alcoholics even when they live far apart. These unfortunate people are probably dependent on alcohol from the first drink.
When alcohol interacts with prescription over the counter drugs it usually results in negative health effects most especially liver damage as the main organ affected.
Do not take if allergic to the drug, if you are pregnant or breast feeding or if you have liver disease. It is advised that you not become pregnant while using this drug. If this happens stop use immediately.
Before starting inform your physician if you have a history of liver or kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid disorder or if you drink more than 2 alcoholic drinks per day.
Side Effects
Less serious side effects are headache, mild muscle pain, joint pain, constipation, mild nausea, stomach pain or indigestion. If these occur call your physician for advice.
Serious side effectsunexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, fever, unusual tiredness, dark color urine, swelling, weight gain, changes in frequency of urination, nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay colored stools or jaundice.If these occur get emergency medical help.
