Rosso di Montalcino speaks to explain Rosso di Maontalcino wine and what is Rosso di Montalcino wine both manufacture and history of such.
This wine is a red Italian wine that is produced near the town of Montalcino in the Tuscany region.
Montalcino is a small town at about 1850 feet above sea level and encompasses a land mass of only 3000 acres.
The wine is made from the Sangiovese grape and is a Denomiinazione di Origine Controllata e Guarantita wine. It is in fact one of the best known and expensive wines of Italy and has been recognized as such the end of World war II.
By the early part of this 21st century there are nearly 200 wine makers producing the wine which still only produce 330,000 cases per year.
The traditional method of the making of the wine has an extended period of maceration where colour and flavour is garnered from the skins before being aged in oak for 3 or more years. However the type of oak barrel used imparts little taste to the wine.
The production is usually separated between a normal and resirva bottling with the normal being market at 50 months and the riserva marketed at 60 months.
Winemakers who do not religiously follow these rules and regulations can face up to six years in prison if found guilty of transgressing.
