Loratadine Alcohol

Loratadine Alcohol interaction, generic name, is also sold under other brand names. These drugs belong to the family of drugs known as an Antihistamine.

It is prescribed for the treatment of stuffy and runny nose, itchy eyes, allergy scratchy throat, rash, itching, hives and for asthma triggered by an allergic reaction.

Moderate alcohol consumption is advised while taking this drug.

At this time the medical community defines moderate consumption of alcohol as no more than two drinks per day and no more than 14 drinks per week. Anything more is considered an unhealthy dependency on alcohol that may have adverse social, family and health consequences.

If a person drinks only once or twice a week but drinks on the same days each week and more than two drinks this is considered as an alcohol dependency.

If a person binge drinks at any time during the week this is also considered as alcoholism.

Some consider alcoholism as a disease while others consider it an addiction which is the result of personal choice and character fault. This school of thought blames the alcoholism on life style choices.

Personally I consider alcoholism a genetic tendency as I have seen families of alcoholics even when they live far apart. These unfortunate people are probably dependent on alcohol from the first drink.

When alcohol interacts with prescription over the counter drugs it usually results in negative health effects most especially liver damage as the main organ affected.

Before starting advise your physician of any allergies, if you have untreated or uncontrolled epilepsy, a bone marrow disorder, paralytic ileus, intestinal blockage, clozapine infection or immune suppression medication, heart disease, heart rhythm disorder, high blood pressure, history of heart attack or stroke, epilepsy, seizure, lung disease, liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, bone marrow disorder, blood cell disorder, enlarged prostate, urinary problems, glaucoma or a history of smoking.

Considerations

Do not use if allergic to the drug.

If you have liver disease use with caution.

Common Side Effects

Headache, dry mouth, drowsiness and fatigue.

Less Common Side effects

Sweating, tearing, impotence, thirst, flushing, blurred vision, pinkeye, earache, eye pain, ringing or buzzing in ears, weight gain, back pain, leg cramps, chest pain, fever chills, unwell, weak, worsening of allergic symptoms, respiratory infections and breathing difficulties.

Rare Side Effects

Swelling in legs, ankles or feet, jaundice, hepatitis, hair loss, seizures, breast enlargement and skin reaction.
