Lopid Alcohol
Lopid belongs to the family of drugs that help reduce cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. High levels of these fats in the blood are known associates with an increased risk of clogged arteries known as atheroscierosis. It is used to treat very high cholesterol and triglyceride levels in those suffering from pancreatitis.
It is also used to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack or other heart problems in people with high cholesterol and triglycerides who have not been helped by other treatments.
It is advised that you do not drink alcohol not even moderate consumption as it may greatly increase the known side effects.
At this time the medical community defines moderate consumption of alcohol as no more than two drinks per day and no more than 14 drinks per week. Anything more than that is considered an unhealthy dependency on alcohol that may have adverse social, family and health consequences.
If a person drinks only once or twice a week but drinks on the same days each week and more than two drinks this is considered as an alcohol dependency.
If a person binge drinks at any time during the week this is also considered as alcoholism.
Some consider alcoholism as a disease while others consider it an addiction which is the result of personal choice and character fault. This school of thought blames the alcoholism on life style choices.
Personally I consider alcoholism a genetic tendency as I have seen families of alcoholics even when they live far apart. These unfortunate people are probably dependent on alcohol from the first drink.
When alcohol interacts with prescription over the counter drugs it usually results in negative health effects most especially liver damage as the main organ affected.
Do not use if you are allergic to it, taking Prandin, have liver disease, severe kidney disease, gallbladder disease.
Before starting this drug advise your physician if you are allergic to any other drug or substance, if you are pregnant, planning to become so or are breast feeding.
Side Effects
Less serious side effects are upset stomach, mild stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, mild joint or muscle pain, loss of interest in sex, impotence, difficulty achieving orgasm, numb or tingling feeling cold symptoms such as stuffed nose, sneezing or sore throat. If these occur call your physician for advice.
Serious side effects sharp pain in your upper stomach, jaundice, blurred vision, eye pain, seeing halos around lights, pain or burning when urinating, muscle pain, tenderness, weakness with fever, tiredness or dark colored urine, pale skin, easy bruising, bleeding, faint, short of breath, rapid heart rate, trouble concentrating, red pinpoint spots under your skin. If these occur get emergency medical help.
