Deferasirox Alcohol interaction speaks to what is Deferasirox and Deferasirox side effects.
Deferasirox belongs to a family of drugs which are known as iron-chelating agents which serve to bind extra iron in the blood and result in its removal. The drug is used to treat high levels in the blood caused by blood transfusions and is only used in those 2 years or older.
Do not use this drug if allergic to it or have severe kidney disease, advanced cancer or a blood cell disorder.
It is suggested that you discuss with your physician the consumption of alcohol while using as the side effects may greatly increase.
At this time the medical community defines moderate consumption of alcohol as no more than two drinks per day and no more than 14 drinks per week. Anything more than that is considered an unhealthy dependency on alcohol that may have adverse social, family and health consequences.
If a person drinks only once or twice a week but drinks on the same days each week and more than two drinks this is considered as an alcohol dependency.
If a person binge drinks at any time during the week this is also considered as alcoholism.
Some consider alcoholism as a disease while others consider it an addiction which is the result of personal choice and character fault. This school of thought blames the alcoholism on life style choices.
Personally I consider alcoholism a genetic tendency as I have seen families of alcoholics even when they live far apart. These unfortunate people are probably dependent on alcohol from the first drink.
When alcohol interacts with prescription over the counter drugs it usually results in negative health effects most especially liver damage as the main organ affected.
Before starting the drug it is suggested that you advise your physician if you have a history of stomach or intestinal bleeding, vision or hearing problems, a weak immune system caused by cancer, HIV, AIDS or by receiving steroids, chemotherapy or radiation.
Side Effects
Less serious side effects are mild nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, anxiety, tired feeling, sleep problems, mild rash, discolored skin, headache, cough, sinus pain runny or stuffy nose. If these occur call your physician for advice.
Serious side effects are kidney problems, drowsiness, confusion, mood changes, swelling, rapid weight gain, short of breath, changes in urination, liver problems, nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, dark urine, clay colored stools, jaundice, stomach bleeding, bloody or dark stools, coughing up granular vomit, increased thirst or urination, loss of appetite, weakness, constipation, vision or hearing problems, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, sores in mouth or throat, easy bruising, unusual bleeding, severe blistering, peeling and red skin rash.If these occur get emergency medical helo.
